Danville Addition and Kitchen
- Winner of NARI Regional Contractor of the Year - Whole House Remodel
This is a house built in the early 1970s on speculation and was not up to the standards of the other homes in the area. It is situated on a beautiful piece of property with an unobstructed view of Mt. Diablo. The scope of the project included adding approximately 900 sq. ft. to the house while totally remodeling the interior. The kitchen\family room was made larger to allow for a better traffic flow while entertaining. Both the guest bedroom and bath were enlarged. The master bedroom and bath were expanded. Finally, a study was added over the garage.
All the sheetrock was removed and the aluminum electrical wiring was replaced with copper. Two new heating systems were added to improve the comfort level of the house. All windows were replaced with dual-glazed windows. The plywood siding, which was delaminating and buckling, was covered with cedar shingles.
Special Concerns of the Owners:
Study\Office
• The owner needed a study and a quiet, personal area.
Front Entry
• The approach to the front door was through a dark, cave-like area.
• The entry was a small wooden deck at the front door.
• The plywood siding was buckling and delaminating.
