Inviting entrance into kitchen through a lowered ceiling area which immediately opens up to the tall, spacious area of the main kitchen.
Dramatic high ceiling and windows give majestic view of outside. Countertop now has spacious area for working and serving. Niches make places for display of objects d’art.   New Kitchen Floor Plan. Ceiling raised three feet and sink wall moved out three feet.

Wide walkways allow easy flow of traffic even with large number of guests. Legs on island give sense of furniture rather than large block of cabinets. Shoji doors hide mechanical room doors. Appliance garage gives ample storage and still affords working area, because the cabinets are 30" deep on this wall.

  • Legs of walnut contrast with the cabinet doors which are vertical grain white oak with ¼" band of solid white oak.
• Thickness of concrete gives substance to the island with its stone and shell inlays.
• Handles give a sense of whimsy to the overall design.
• Bamboo design etched into the doors in background mirrors the laser-cut bamboo design in the stainless steel support for the glass shelf.

Sink area details:

• Appliance garage gives ample storage and still affords working area, because the cabinets are
30" deep on this wall.
• Glass backsplash has hint of bamboo to tie it together with other parts of the kitchen. Glass
has been painted on the backside with 3 different shades of lime green.
• Sink dish drainer area has sloped surface inlaid with slate and broken pieces of tile.

Shoji screen doors:

When the shoji screens are closed they cover the bulletin board and the mechanical room doors.

Island details:

Glass shelf sits on stainless steel support. Shelf is formed by first sandblasting hunks of glass and then melting them on bed of asbestos fibers to give texture.
